Civilians return to areas cleared of terror with Turkey’s Euphrates Shield operation

Turkey initiated Operation Euphrates Shield on Aug. 24, 2016 which cleared a large area in Syria of terrorist organizations

The regions cleared of terror with Turkey’s Euphrates Shield Operation has produced peaceful and safe environments, and the number of the civilians returning to their homes increases every day. Population multiplied in districts and more than quadrupled in towns.Local councils formed by oppositions conducted a population census in areas cleared of terror with Operation Euphrates Shield.

Population increases to 236,000

According to the census, the number of people who returned to their homes increased by 4.5 times after the Daesh terrorist organization retreated. In some districts the population multiplied nine times. The population of districts that had decreased to a population of 52,000 increased to 236,000. The population of al-Rai was 4,000 but increased to 20,000 after Turkey conducted its Euphrates Shield operation.


Civilians return to Jarabulus

The population of Jarabulus had decreased to 7.000. According to the latest counts it has increased to 36,000. Al-Bab’s population was 12.000 during the Daesh occupancy. It was evacuated during the clashes between Daesh and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army. The city’s population increased to 106,000 after civilians returned.

A report in March, 2017 by the UN put the number of refugees who have fled the war in Syria at five million, with millions more displaced internally since the conflict in Syria began in 2011.
