Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Israel would not be able to erase the traces of Islam in Jerusalem on Friday at the Jerusalem Conference in Istanbul.

"We say that Jerusalem is our red line. To defend Jerusalem is to defend humanity, peace, justice and independence," he said

"Israel has been purposely trying to erase the traces of the Muslim world from Jerusalem for the past 50 years. You won't succeed," Erdoğan added.

Erdoğan also said that Jamal Khashoggi was "martyred in a heinous operation" at Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and columnist for The Washington Post, went missing after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in early October.

After initially saying he had left the consulate alive, Saudi Arabia admitted weeks later that he was killed there, blaming his death on a group of rogue Saudi operatives.
