No reports of damage or casualties so far
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir early Friday, said officials.
The Indian National Center for Seismology said the quake struck Kargil district at 2.50 a.m. local time (2120GMT) at a depth of 15 kilometers (9.32 miles).
There have been no reports of any damage or casualties.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a 5.1 magnitude.
The Ladakh region, which borders China, falls within Seismic Zone IV, meaning the area is highly prone to earthquakes.
Ladakh has been separately administered since India removed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019.
