Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held talks in Cairo with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on Tuesday, according to the Egyptian Presidency.

The talks focused on regional developments, counter-terrorism efforts and resolution of crises, the Presidency said in a statement.

“The region needs joint efforts to settle and calm the unstable situation,” the statement quoted al-Sisi as saying during the meeting.

Kotzias, for his part, said his country was keen on boosting relations with Egypt.

According to the statement, the talks also tackled bilateral relations and means of bolstering cooperation in economic, investment and trade fields.

The Greek minister arrived in Cairo earlier Tuesday for talks with Egyptian officials on means of enhancing ties between the two countries.

In November, Egypt and Greece agreed to declare 2018 a “year of friendship” between the two countries.
