Europe's annual inflation down in June

Portugal, Malta, Greece post lowest annual inflation rate, while Hungary, Poland, Estonia saw highest rate

Annual inflation rate both in the EU and eurozone decreased on a monthly basis in June, according to Eurostat on Friday.

The eurozone annual inflation slipped to 1.9%, down from 2.0% in May while the rate for EU was 2.2%, down from 2.3%.

The highest contribution to the annual euro area inflation rate came from energy, followed by non-energy industrial goods, services and food, alcohol and tobacco.

The lowest annual inflation were seen in Portugal (minus 0.6%), Malta (0.2%) and Greece (0.6%), while the highest were in Hungary (5.3%), Poland (4.1%) and Estonia (3.7%).

Compared to May, annual inflation decreased in 12 EU member states, remained unchanged in four and rose in eleven.

Meanwhile, in June 2020, the annual inflation rates were 0.3% in eurozone and 0.8% in the EU.
