Zimbabwe's former vice president was officially declared a "fugitive of justice" after fleeing a graft probe investigating him for charges of criminal abuse of office, local media reported on Tuesday.

Phelekezela Mphoko is being investigated for illegally ordering the release of Moses Juma, a former government official in custody also over charges of abuse of office, according to state-run daily The Herald.

After having resisted arrest from his house on Saturday, Mphoko reportedly agreed to meet anti-corruption authorities two days later at a police station in Bulawayo city, only to ditch officers while on his way there in his personal vehicle.

His current whereabouts are unknown, the newspaper said.
