At least four people, including two policemen, were killed and more than 30 injured on Wednesday in an explosion in northeastern Pakistan, police and local media reported.

The blast occurred at a police checkpoint established to guard the Tableeghi Jamat headquarters in Raiwand, located in the outskirts of Lahore city, according to local Dunya News.

Dr. Haider Ashraf, Lahore police chief, told reporters 10 police personnel were injured, including a senior official.

Four of them are in critical condition, he said, adding that he was not sure about the nature of the blast at this point.

Initial reports suggested, a motorbike was used in the blast, he said, adding that it could have been the act of a suicide bomber.

Hundreds of thousands of Tableeghi Jamat followers attend the annual congregation at Raiwand town, which also houses the residence of three-time premier Nawaz Sharif.

The group engages in Islamic missionary work and has followers around the world.
