A total of four PKK terrorists were “neutralized” inside Turkey and northern Iraq, the military said on Monday.

Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

According to information on the website of Turkish General Staff, one terrorist was neutralized in Zap region of northern Iraq as the terrorist was reportedly plotting to carry out an attack on Turkish troops.

Other three terrorists, who were also allegedly planning to attack military bases, were killed by artillery in Yuksekova district of southeastern Hakkari province, according to the statement.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
