France granted asylums to 28 Yazidi women and their children, the country’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

In a written statement, the ministry said Yazidi women with their children, who suffered at the hands of Daesh terrorist group, flew from the northern Iraqi city of Erbil to the southern France's city of Toulouse.

The women were brought to France as part of President Emmanuel Macron's pledge to Nobel-winning activist Nadia Murad to take in 100 Yazidis.

An Iraqi-Yazidi female activist, Murad, who survived sexual enslavement by Daesh in Iraq, was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 2018.
