Hundreds of journalists killed in Syria in 7 years: NGO

682 journalists including 8 foreigners killed in Syria since March 2011, says watchdog

A total of 682 journalists including eight foreign nationals were killed in Syria between March 2011 and May 2018, according to a Syrian human rights group on Thursday.

Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) released a special report on Press Freedom Day marked on May 3.

During the same period 1,116 jounalists including 33 foreigners were detained.

The Assad regime and its supporters killed 556, Daesh terror organization killed 64, YPG/PKK terror group killed four and other terror groups killed 33 journalists. Also 25 others were killed during the clashes between opposition and regime forces.

Since the Syrian conflict began in 2011, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions more rendered homeless, according to UN figures.
