India's home minister announced Saturday a government plan to seal international boundaries with neighboring countries, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the immediate future.
"India is planning to seal the international boundaries with Pakistan and Bangladesh as soon as possible. This could be India's major step against terrorism and the problem of refugees," Rajnath Singh was quoted as saying by leading Indian newspaper Times of India.
The minister's comments came during a speech at the Border Security Academy in Madhya Pradesh's Tekanpur area.
Singh said that the Indian government would apply technological solutions for sealing the border in difficult terrains to check infiltration of militants from across the border with Pakistan.
The Home Ministry later announced the plan on its Twitter account.
“Centre has chalked a new roadmap to strengthen our border security. We plan to seal the international borders with Bangladesh amp; Pakistan," it said.
