Iraq and Lebanon on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding for boosting military cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was signed during a meeting between Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Inad and his Lebanese counterpart Maurice Selim during his current visit to the capital Baghdad.

A statement by the Iraqi Defense Ministry said the deal aims to “develop bilateral military relations” between the two Arab countries.

On Monday, the Lebanese defense minister met with Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qassim al-Araji to discuss ways of enhancing security and military cooperation.

On Oct. 25, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with his Iraqi counterpart Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Baghdad where they discussed bilateral relations and regional developments as well as counter-terrorism cooperation.
