Israel’s charge d’affaires in Morocco announced that he has been officially appointed as his country's ambassador to Rabat.

"I am pleased to share with my followers and friends all over the world the news of my appointment as the official ambassador for the state of Israel to Morocco," David Govrin wrote on Twitter on Sunday evening.

He added that he will continue his work to develop relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv.

In January, Govrin, who is a former Israeli ambassador to Cairo, was named the charge d’affaires of Israel’s diplomatic mission in Rabat.

In August, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid opened an Israeli liaison office in the Moroccan capital as part of his first official visit to the north African nation.

On Dec. 10, 2020, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations after they were suspended in 2000 following the outbreak of the second Palestinian Intifada.

Morocco is the fourth Arab country to agree to normalization with Israel since 2020 after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan.
