Israel has paid $20 million in compensation to Turkey as a part of the reconciliation agreement which ended a six-year rift and paved the way for the restoration of full diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Turkey and Israel reached a reconciliation deal on August 20.

Under the terms of the reconciliation agreement, Israel promised to pay $20 million as compensation to the victims.

The agreement also allows Turkey to transmit non-military materials, including humanitarian aid to Gaza and material to rebuild the infrastructure there.

The Mavi Marmara attack sparked a crisis between Turkey and Israel, as the Turkish-flagged ship, the Mavi Marmara, was raided by Israeli troops in 2010 en route to the Gaza Strip to breach the Israeli blockade.

Nine pro-Palestinian Turkish activists were killed in a battle at sea when Israeli naval commandos boarded their ship.
