Landslides and floods in the southern Indian state of Kerala have claimed 18 lives, emergency officials said on Thursday.
According to disaster management officials, several people have gone missing in three districts following torrential rains.
Five members of a family died in a landslide in Malappuram district. A six-member family is reported to be missing in Idukki district after their house was flattened by a landslide.
In an official statement, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said: "Help has been sought from Army, Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)."
"Heavy rains are causing destruction in many parts of the state. Debris flows and soil erosion have occurred in Wayanad, Idukki and Malappuram districts," he added.
