Malaysian key opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday claimed he has obtained the majority support of the members of the parliament to form the government.

"I have a strong formidable convincing majority. Not a small majority,” local daily The Star quoted Ibrahim as saying during a news conference.

"We need a strong, stable government to run the country. Includes Barisan MPs. The discretion to dissolve the parliament is the sole prerogative of the [King] Agong. I spoke to him on Monday night," he added.

He also noted: "This is not a backdoor government, this is a government that has the mandate and support. Of course it is a Malay-majority government, but will be inclusive so that every community is represented."
