Attacks by the Syrian regime and pro-regime terrorist groups in Syria’s northwestern Idlib de-escalation zone killed a mother and her child, said an official Saturday.

The regime and Iranian-backed terrorist groups have been firing artillery into many villages including Jarjanaz and Al-Tamanah, which are situated inside the de-escalation zone, the parameters of which were laid down in a recent agreement between Turkey and Russia.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Mustafa Hajj Youssef, director of the White Helmets civil-defense agency, said the attacks also left three civilians injured.

Despite the agreement signed on Sept. 17 in the Russian resort city of Sochi, regime forces have continued to target rural areas of Latakia province, southern Idlib, western Aleppo, and northern and western Hama.

At least 27 civilians were killed and dozens of others were injured so far after the Sochi deal was signed.

In line with the Sochi deal, opposition groups last month withdrew their heavy weaponry from specified regions of Idlib.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
