A suicide bomb attack on an army base has injured 15 people, including soldiers and local security personnel, in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri.

Police commissioner Damian Chukwu confirmed to Anadolu Agency that two female bombers had sneaked into the 333 Artillery barrack of the Nigerian army on the outskirts of Maiduguri Wednesday night and detonated the explosives they had strapped on their bodies.
The twin explosions killed the bombers, Chuwku disclosed.

He said the number of casualties could not be ascertained until early Thursday morning after evacuation and clearance of the site.

The bomb attack, the first on military barrack this year, came nearly a week after twin blasts killed 20 and wounded 48 following an Eid celebration 90 kilometers (56 miles) southwest of Maiduguri, the epicenter of Boko Haram insurgency.

No group has claimed responsibility for these attacks but military and police said they were similar to previous Boko Haram attacks.

Boko Haram violence in Nigeria's northeast has entered its ninth year.
