Talks between Russia and the U.S. in Washington did not lead to a breakthrough in bilateral relations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"The fact that the Russian minister was received by the U.S. president is an important moment. Another thing is that so far we do not have to talk about any positive changes in our bilateral relations. But such contacts are important," Peskov told reporters in Moscow.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday held talks with his U.S. counterpart Mike Pompeo and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

At a news conference following the meeting, Lavrov said the issues of bilateral ties, arms control and regional conflicts were discussed.

Speaking about the Normandy Four summit in Paris between Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine, Peskov said all the sides pursued the same goal of taking real steps to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

"Certain steps, important steps have been taken in this direction, but much more remains to be done," he said.

Earlier this week, the Normandy Four summit was held to discuss a solution of the conflict in East Ukraine.
