Palestine is communicating with the Red Cross to evacuate its nationals from Ukraine, amid Russia’s war on the European country, according to a Palestinian adviser on Sunday.

"We contacted the International Committee of the Red Cross to provide safe passages for the evacuation of our students and families from Ukrainian cities,” Ahmed al-Deek, an adviser to the Palestinian foreign minister, said in a statement.

He said around 1,100 Palestinians have been evacuated from Ukraine since the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict.

“Palestinian embassies in Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia continue to receive students and members of the Palestinian community, who are being evacuated from Ukraine," he added.

According to Palestinian estimates, there are over 3,000 Palestinians in Ukraine, including 700 university students.

Russia's war on Ukraine has been met by outrage from the international community with the EU, UK, and US, among others, implementing a range of economic sanctions on Moscow.

According to UN figures, at least 331 civilians have been killed and 675 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war on Feb. 24.

More than 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, according to the UN refugee agency.
