The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist organization has been negotiating with the Assad regime for Syria’s Afrin, which has been under PKK occupation for five years, according to reports. Speaking exclusively to Yeni Şafak on the Turkish borderline, Saad Shawish, the head of the local council for the city of Raqqa, disclosed the details of the dirty negotiation. Stating that five different meetings were held between the PKK and the Assad regime since June 2017, Shawish said that three of them were conducted in al-Hasakah, while two of them were in held Damascus.

US forces PKK to stay in Raqqa

Shawish noted that the meetings were held between Aldar Khalil, who is the so-called head of PKK’s political affairs, and Syria's National Security Chief Ali Mamlouk. The main subject was “the PKK wanting Afrin in exchange for Raqqa.” He said the PKK wanted to move its terrorists from Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor to Afrin, and added: “It is still in Manbij, Tabqa and Raqqa by force of the United States.”

PKK proposes cooperation

Shawish said that the PKK, continuing its U.S.-backed terrorist activities and occupation in Syria, considers Afrin as the capital of a so-called Syrian Kurdistan. “Raqqa and Tabqa matters for the U.S., not the PKK,” he pointed. He noted that there is 90 kilometers between Raqqa and the Turkish border. “The terrorist organization tried to contact us, as well. They said they did not have sufficient military and political power to manage the current occupation map, and wanted to increase their presence at the points near the border, such as Qamishli, Amuda, al-Darbasiyah, Ras al-Ayn, Tell Abyad, Ayn al-Arab and Afrin. They also said that they wanted to cooperate with us,” said Shawish.

‘US does not want peace in Syria’

Shawish went on to say that the PKK overtly spreads terror across the region and that the U.S. awards these terrorist activities. “The U.S. attempts to increase animosity in the region and does not want peace in Syria,” he added. He said that a period of conflict caused by the U.S. will start in the region, particularly in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa within six months at the very most, and the PKK is therefore in a state of panic.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
