A three-day joint naval exercise between Qatar and Pakistan was conducted in Qatar’s regional waters.

The military exercise, dubbed “León Marino-1,” was aimed at sharing experiences, training the crew members for various assignments and to enhance ties between the countries.

The joint drill was comprised of exercises aimed at protecting oil and gas fields as well as anti-piracy training.

Qatar is noted as the largest producer of liquefied natural gas in the world and has an annual production of 77 million tons. Doha stated in July that it planned to boost its production by 30 percent by 2024.

Qatar’s Defense Ministry had previously stated that its naval forces were additionally carrying out drills with Italian and Indian naval forces.
