Relations between Baku and Yerevan will normalize following border delimitation between the two countries, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said Thursday, according to a report by Trend News Agency.

"With the demarcation of borders, relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will normalize. All regional countries will benefit from this, not just Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Bayramov said during a speech at the Eighth Global Baku Forum.

He also added that the results of the 44-day Karabakh War, which ended with the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation, opened up new horizons for the expansion of regional cooperation.

Relations between the former Soviet republics have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Upper Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.

New clashes erupted on Sept. 27 last year, with the Armenian army attacking civilians and Azerbaijani forces and violating several humanitarian cease-fire agreements.

During the 44-day conflict, Azerbaijan liberated several cities and some 300 settlements and villages that were occupied by Armenia for almost 30 years.

Projects with Turkey, Georgia

“Azerbaijan has implemented large-scale infrastructural projects with Turkey and Georgia, thanks to which, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, transportation has increased,” the minister noted.

Under the auspices of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and with the organization of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, the VIII Global Baku Forum titled "The World after COVID-19" began in the capital of Azerbaijan on November 4 and will last until Friday.

The Eighth Baku Forum brings together high-level representatives from more than 40 countries of the world, former heads of state and government, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, as well as other guests to discuss issues of global importance.
