Russia’s foreign ministry on Friday issued a note of protest to Washington regarding violations of international law in terms of Russian missions in the United States.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry lodged strong protest to the US Department of State sending a corresponding note through diplomatic channels," the ministry said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the UN had been alerted to the situation, “whose consequences extend far beyond Russian-American bilateral relations and affect the interests of the entire international community.”

The Russian Consulate General in San Francisco and the trade missions in Washington and New York were shut by U.S. authorities on Sept. 2, 2017.

Russia dubbed the move as explicitly hostile and called on Washington to revoke the closures. Tensions flared further when the U.S. closed Russia’s Consulate General in Seattle and the consul general’s residence on March 26, 2018.
