Saudi Arabia contributes $100 million to terror group in NE Syria

The Saudi government has contributed $100 million to allegedly revitalizing areas in northeastern Syria, which are occupied by U.S.-backed terror groups.

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has contributed $100 million dollars in northeast Syria," read a statement published by the Saudi embassy in Washington DC.

The funds will go toward cities such as Raqqa, which is occupied by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The SDF is dominated by the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which follows the leftist ideology of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) that has fought a three-decade insurgency in Turkey. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.

Washington operates military bases in areas northeastern Syria, which is largely controlled by the PKK linked SDF.

The Saudi embassy said the funding represents the Kingdom’s close partnership with Washington.
