Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz on Monday discussed bilateral relations and prospects for stepped-up cooperation in a phone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

According to Saudi Arabia’s official SPA news agency, the two leaders discussed the “friendly relations between the [Saudi] kingdom and Japan and prospects for bilateral cooperation, especially the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030”.

Unveiled in 2016, “Saudi-Japan Vision 2030” is a bilateral initiative comprised of 10 separate programs aimed at boosting both countries’ economies.

In March of last year, King Salman visited Japan as part of a wider tour of Asia.

During his visit, the two sides signed 13 agreements in different fields, including petroleum, health and water desalination.
