Syrian regime forces carried out several attacks on opposition-held areas on Sunday, despite a UN resolution demanding a 30-day humanitarian cease-fire.

One woman was killed when regime forces shelled the town of Hammuriya in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta, according to sources with the White Helmets civil defense agency.

Regime forces also mounted air and artillery attacks in the towns of Duma, Harasta, Sifoniye, Kafr Batna, Saqba, Bayt Sava and Al-Marj, the sources said.

Residential areas in the city of Jisr al-Shughur in the northwestern Idlib province were also reported to have come under heavy shelling by regime forces.

Regime warplanes also struck the town of Kafr Zita in the central Hama province, the White Helmets sources said.

On Friday, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution demanding a 30-day cease-fire to allow for humanitarian aid deliveries.

The resolution, prepared by Sweden and Kuwait, also calls for the medical evacuation of 700 people, particularly in Eastern Ghouta, which has been under siege for the last five years, preventing the delivery of food and medicine and leaving thousands of patients in need of treatment.

Regime forces have intensified attacks on Eastern Ghouta in recent days, killing 389 people in the past six days, according to the White Helmets.

Syria has been locked in a devastating conflict since early 2011 when the regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.

According to UN officials, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict to date.
