'Now more than ever, we need you to continue fighting for those values and the country we all love,' Walz tells voters in his 1st public statement since Harris' loss

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday for choosing him as her running mate, urging Democratic voters to “continue fighting” for the campaign's core values.

In his first public statement since Harris lost the presidential race to former President Donald Trump, Walz thanked Harris for her trust and called campaigning alongside her "the honor and privilege of my life."

"While the outcome is not what we wanted, I am grateful to the millions of Americans who joined our campaign and stood up for our greatest ideals: decency, compassion, and love of our neighbor," he wrote on X.

"Now more than ever, we need you to continue fighting for those values and the country we all love," he added.

Trump surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win reelection early Wednesday and currently stands at 295 to Democratic candidate Harris' 226, according to The Associated Press.

Harris conceded the election in a speech at Howard University, her alma mater, on Wednesday, reaffirming her commitment to the ideals of "freedom, opportunity, fairness, and the dignity of all people."
