The governor of Tunisia’s Central Bank offered his resignation to the prime minister, according to a social media post by the ministry on Wednesday.

Published on the Facebook account of the Tunisia's prime ministry, the footage showed Chedli Ayari resigned his position during a meeting with Prime Minister Yusuf al-Shahid.

Ayari cited that he resigned to make way for new governors.

Meanwhile, Shadid commended Ayari’s international efforts for Tunisia during a difficult phase for the country.

On Tuesday, Ayari said he would resign even if the parliament didn’t approve the decision regarding the dismissal of the central bank governor by the prime minister.

On Feb. 8, the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi wanted to replaced Ayari with Marouane El Abassi, Libyan representative for World Bank.
