A meeting was held last week in Iran with experts taking into consideration decisions taken in Astana about the de-escalation zones in Syria. At the end of the month, another meeting will be held at the level of assistant secretary in Astana.

However, it is stated that the Astana initiative could also be commissioned at an earlier date.

While the separation of groups in the region from terrorist organizations is pivotal to ensure no clashes breakout in Idlib, measures are being taken in the region for a solution in accordance with the mechanism established between Turkey, Iran and Russia.

Security measures to be taken in Idlib without military intervention are being discussed. Within the scope of the Astana agreement, areas that are part of the de-escalation zones include all of Idlib and regions of Latkia, Hama and Aleppo, some regions in the north of Homs, Eastern Ghouta, and Dera and Kuneytra.

Areas of de-escalation have been applied to three of these zones. Work to cover Idlib is still underway.
