Turkey has started efforts to have the former terrorist PKK leader Salih Muslim extradited to Ankara, the Turkish justice ministry said on Sunday.

"Upon finding the person in question was in the Czech Republic, the necessary contacts were made and it was demanded that he be captured and arrested to be extradited back to our country," the ministry said in a statement.

The foreign ministers of Turkey and the Czech Republic will discuss the possible extradition of Salih Muslim, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ said on Sunday.

Muslim was arrested in Prague on Saturday, said the officials on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The Turkish Interior Ministry offered a bounty of nearly $1 million on Muslim who is listed as a most wanted terrorist.

The PYD/PKK, a Syrian offshoot of the PKK, has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
