The Turkish military carried out airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or ISIL early Friday, according to the private Doğan news agency. At least 35 ISIL militants were killed; no official statement has been made about the killings yet.



Turkish fighter jets pounded ISIL targets in Syria early on Friday, the prime minister's office said, Turkey said it would take any "necessary measures" to protect itself from terrorist attacks.

Meanwhile, the Turkish police detained at least 251 suspects in counter terrorism operations across the country against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIL, the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, and the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, or DHPK-C, according to a prime ministry statement on Friday.



At least 5,000 officers took part in the operation which was carried out with helicopters and Special Forces.
