As Turkey’s Afrin operation approaches, the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)’s Syrian offshoot, the PYD, which occupies the northwestern Syrian region, has experienced a collapse as one of its so-called commanders defected and surrendered himself to opposition forces in the city of Azaz.

Speaking exclusively to Yeni Şafak daily, PKK’s so-called commander Weysi Hijazi, codenamed “Abu Uday,” who defected from the ranks of the terror group in Afrin recently, has made a shocking confession.

Hijazi, who served in the terror organization for 16 months in the PKK-occupied town of Minnigh warned against “falling prey to the PKK’s media publicity,” noting that the terror group “does not have the strength to stand up to the Turkish Army.”

“The Turkish army will be in Afrin three hours after launching the operation,” noted Hijazi.

Hijazi also pointed that Russian troops were withdrawn from the region, stressing that “there are only Russian flags left in the Jinderes region.

He added that Russian flags could be hoisted at positions along the border, which is a trap by the PKK.

‘A monthly salary of $1000’

“There are 9,000 PKK terrorists in Afrin. There are also U.S.-backed groups that act as a front for PKK terrorists such as the Liwa al-Ashayer, Magawir Homs, Jaysh al-Thuwwar. These people’s salaries are paid by a so-called terror organization responsible named Shahin Jilo, codenamed Farhat Abdi, who is based in Raqqa. There’s also a financial responsible in Rmeilan who is in charge of paying all Afrin’s PKK terrorists’ salaries.

“The money of course comes from the U.S., some high-ranking PKK terrorists in Afrin were even visited by American civilians in 2016. They told them to cover all their needs. And that is what really happened. We received a salary of $1000 until June 2017. During that time, some high-ranking personnel were acting very generous, but from June onwards, our salaries were slashed to $200,” said Hijazi.

‘We plundered every town we seized’

“Following Russia’s unprecedented aerial support, we embarked from Afrin and seized the towns of Tal Rifat, Kafr Naseh, Maarnaz, Malikiyyeh, Annab, Ayn Daqneh, and Ahraz, among many others, from the Free Syrian Army (FSA). Everything was plundered in the towns we stormed, including livestock, rugs, furniture and closets. For days, trucks were moving furniture to Afrin. Mosques, schools, hospitals and silos were emptied and moved to Afrin to be sold. When it came to valuables, they were allotted to high-ranking members first.

“The plundering was so bad that they even dismantled the region’s railways and brought it to Afrin and was sold for the price of junk,” he continued.

The region receives aid from HDP

Hijazi also revealed the mechanism behind the aid that comes to the region from Turkish municipalities run by members of the Democratic People’s Party (HDP): “The HDP regularly sends aid to Afrin, chiefly from Diyarbakır municipalities, which include food, clothes and medical supplies.”

Revealed the identity of the group’s top figure

Hijazi also pointed that the highest-ranking PKK commander in Afrin, codenamed “Bektaş,” is originally from Turkey, noting that he “calls the shots” in the region.

“It was revealed that he has a translator next to him during the most important meetings since he doesn’t speak either Arabic or Kurdish.

“Bektaş occupies a very crucial position in Afrin and he has a special security crew for his own protection that was dispatched from Qandil. He was assigned from Qandil to the region about two years ago, and he carries out duties related to the organization’s inner discipline and torture activities,” concluded Hijazi.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
