Turkey’s Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) on Saturday held an international symposium titled: “Al-Quds [Jerusalem] during the Ottoman period”.

The symposium took place in Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

“More than 70 students who work in Islamic foundations in Palestine participated in the symposium,” Abdulkadir Mustafa, the institute's director for Ramallah told Anadolu Agency.

Reha Ermumcu, YEE director for Jerusalem emphasized the need to obtain information from the archives, adding: “I invite Palestinian students to learn Turkish in order to study Ottoman archives.”

Since its establishment in 2009, the institute has taught Turkish to over 100,000 people in 43 countries.

Named after the 13th-century poet Yunus Emre, the institute now has 56 cultural centers in 46 countries around the world, offering artistic, social and scientific programs.
