Turkish security forces "neutralized" a terrorist in a counter-terrorism operation in the country's east, local officials said on Sunday.
Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
In a written statement, the eastern Tunceli governorship said that the terrorist had been neutralized in a joint operation by Provincial Gendarmerie Command and Provincial Security Directorate in a rural area of the eastern Tunceli province.
The statement added the terrorist was detected by Turkish security forces as part of counter-terrorism operation and was neutralized by armed UAVs.
The operations in the region are ongoing, the statement added.
Though the statement did not mention a specific terrorist group, Turkey has long been conducting operations against the PKK terrorist organization in the region.
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including many women, children and infants.
