The Turkish Navy has been declared the strongest maritime force in the region, according to a recent Israeli analysis, following the decisive actions taken by Turkey to protect its legitimate interests in the East Mediterranean and Ankara’s technological advances in the field of defense.

The annual assessment published by Haifa University’s Maritime Policy & Strategy Research Center heaped praise on Turkey’s advanced naval fleet, while also warning that Israel should seriously consider the “potential threat“ posed by Ankara.

“Ankara is building a Navy that characterizes a regional power and can execute long-range operations,” an expert was quoted as saying in the analysis.

Turkey, which has the longest continental coastline in the Eastern Mediterranean, has rejected the maritime boundary claims by Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration, stressing that these excessive claims violate the sovereign rights of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots.

Ankara last year sent several drill ships to explore for gas in the Eastern Mediterranean, asserting its rights in the region, as well as those of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Turkish authorities have repeatedly stressed that Ankara is in favor of resolving outstanding problems in the region through international law, good neighborly relations, dialogue, and negotiations.
