The UAE is keeping up its efforts aimed at staging a coup in neighboring Qatar as the Abu Dhabi administration receives opposition leader and Qatari royal Sheikh Sultan bin Suhaim al-Thani in the Bahr Royal Palace.

Sheikh Sultan bin Suhaim, who had previously called for the “revision” of Qatar’s foreign policy, has sided with the countries enforcing an embargo on the tiny Gulf monarchy since June last year.

A photo was shared on Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’s official Twitter account with the caption: “Mohammed bin Rashid and Mohamed bin Zayed receive Sultan bin Suhaim Al-Thani, welcome him to the UAE as his second home country, and emphasize the brotherly and historical people-to-people ties.”

The picture of “betrayal”

A photo was published showing Sheikh Sultan sitting together with high-ranking members of the UAE royal family in Abu Dhabi’s “Bahr Palace,” in what is being called a picture of “betrayal.”

Sheikh Abdullah ‘detained’ in UAE

Sheikh Sultan’s visit to Abu Dhabi amid recent reports of UAE plans to stage a coup in Qatar begs the question of whether the ruling Emirati family is still pursuing the same plans.

It remains to be seen how long Sheikh Sultan’s visit to Abdu Dhabi is slated to last.

Back in January, Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali, another member of the Qatari opposition, was hosted in the UAE by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, and was later detained.

Abdullah posted a video of himself saying he was being kidnapped in Abu Dhabi after a meeting with the crown prince.

He later arrived in Kuwait where he sought refuge after the incident.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Yemen cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism. They also imposed a land, sea and air blockade.

The UAE, Bahrain and Egypt also wanted to deprive Qatar of hosting the soccer World Cup in 2022.
