With their heavily adorned sarees and delicious cuisine, we all know why they call it a “big fat Indian wedding.” However, this couple did not even get the chance to arrive at their ceremony in a decorated car or wedding convoy.  All they wanted was to walk down the aisle on time.

Newlyweds Akash and Aishwarya, both healthcare workers, came up with the unorthodox idea of sailing into their wedding in a "cooking pot," rather like Cinderella’s pumpkin-turned-carriage, as heavy rains turned the streets into overflowing rivers in India's Kerala state.

"It turned into a wedding which we never imagined," the bride told Asianet.

The couple reportedly borrowed the pot from a local temple as it was "the only option" remaining if they were to not miss their big day.

Footage showing the bride and groom sailing through the flooded streets in a large aluminum cooking vessel with the help of two men and a photographer later went viral on social media.

The death toll from flash floods and landslides in the southern Indian state of Kerala rose to 28 on Monday.

With rising water levels in various dams, the state government has issued alerts that shutters of certain dams will be raised, which will increase water levels of rivers in the south and central Kerala, according to reports.
