The international community is “not going to run scared from” North Korea, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said regarding North Korea’s threats against the United States following the United Nations Security Council’s new economic sanctions.

In an interview with U.S.-based Fox News channel, Haley evaluated the new sanctions against North Korea, which continues its ballistic missile tests in spite of the UN Security Council’s resolutions.

Stating that the sanctions were “a gut-punch to North Korea,” Haley said the country’s aggressive attitude and its reactions show that North Korea is concerned about them.

Haley noted China and Russia, which the U.S. Ambassador criticized before as they were not putting enough pressure on North Korea to end its nuclear activities, and this time supported the UN Security Council’s resolution to impose sanctions.

“Now they [North Korea] see the international community is standing with one voice. China didn't pull off; Russia didn’t pull off. And all of the Security Council said ‘That is enough, you’ve got to stop it. We’re not going to watch you doing this anymore. Ninety percent of the trade that North Korea has is with China. So that’s why they were so important to this resolution. And what we saw was the fact that China did step up — these are hard- hitting sanctions that we’re doing.”
