Mothers from across Turkey have initiated a nationwide campaign to knit snoods, scarfs and berets so that the Turkish soldiers participating in Operation Olive Branch do not get cold. The massive campaign, in which mom-knitted accessories are dispatched to the Turkish soldiers in Syria’s Afrin, has quadrupled khaki-colored wool yarn sales across the country. One wool yarn is sold for an average of five Turkish liras, and a snood, scarf and beret can be knitted using four yarns.

Sales assistants in Reyhan Bazaar in Turkey’s Bursa expressed that they provided mothers crocheting for Turkish soldiers with a discount. “Wool yarn sales, especially the khaki ones, have quadrupled in the last two months as moms prefer them for their knitting campaign. Moms and women’s associations knit snoods, scarfs and berets for our soldiers on the battle front. We give them a special discount for wholesale purchases,” they said.

Turkey’s Operation Olive Branch was initiated on Jan. 20 in Afrin to establish security and stability, eliminate terrorists of PKK/KCK/PYD-YPG and Daesh, and save locals from the terrorists’ oppression and cruelty.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey’s rights based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, its self-defense rights under the UN charter, and respect for Syria's territorial integrity.

The military said it is putting the "utmost importance" on not harming any civilians.
