China's parliament on Saturday unanimously reelected President Xi Jinping for a second term in office.

Xi Jinping won all 2,970 votes, also becoming chairman of the Central Military Commission.

The former anti-corruption chief Wang Qishan was elected the vice president.

Qishan had been secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Last week, China passed law ending term limits for the nation's president and vice president.

The change to the country’s Constitution allows the two leaders to serve at their posts indefinitely.

The move paves the way for China’s current President Xi Jinping to stay in office after 2023, when -- under the old rules -- his term was due to end.
