David Brandenberger, a Swiss man taking round–the-world-trip on his solar-powered bike,

arrived in Manisa city on his first stop in Turkey.

The 46-yearl-old is currently having rest in Turgutlu town, Manisa. I am planning to reach China passing through countries on the Silk Road," he told reporters during his rest. “I estimate the travel I began in July 2014 on the solar bike will take 10 years."

His previous stop in Turkey was the western city of İzmir. Brandenberger traveled 8,000 kilometers since the start of his tour seven months ago. He has stopped in many European countries until his arrival to Turkey.

The Swiss man explained he has attached a three-wheeled bicycle to a specially-designed 4-meter-long trailer, covered with solar panel at the top in an attempt to travel around the world without damaging the environment.

Brandenberger said he is

quite happy with the Pedelec Trike because it has capacity to carry all his belongings, including guitar and photographic equipment.

“But the biggest hurdle I have faced is to find a suitable place to park the bike, which is actually longer than five meters with its trailer," he added.
