Turkish security forces have killed as many as 1250 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists in the Varto, Nusaybin, Dargeçit, Silvan, Silopi, Cizre, Sur, Derik and Idil towns of the southeastern Muş, Mardin, Şırnak and Diyarbakır provinces of Turkey since July 2015.
The operations were conducted as joint efforts of the Turkish military and security forces.
During operations in the region, the number of excavated ditches filled and barricades removed exceeded 85 in Dargeçit town, 22 in Silvan, 788 in Silopi, 951 in Cizre, 24 in Derik, 52 in Nusaybin, 174 in Idil and 211 in Sur, a total of 2,307. More than 3,000 explosives were destroyed in all the four provinces where operation conducted amid curfews.
Security forces witnessed the brutal methods of the terrorist organization, which hid explosives in closets, cribs, stoves, refrigerators, pots and suitcases without regard for civilian lives.
In Abdulkadirpaşa, Fırat, Dicle and Yenişehir neighborhoods of Mardin's Nusaybin, a curfew was in effect for six days starting from October 1 of 2015 the first time, followed by seven more curfews due to continuing terrorist attacks in the town. During these periods, more than 50 terrorists were killed in the town.
In Dargeçit town of Mardin, in a curfew declared in between October 10-13 of 2015 and December 11-29 of the same year, as many as 33 terrorists were killed while 85 barricades were removed and excavated ditches filled.
In the three neighborhoods of the Silvan town of Diyarbakır, starting from November 3 of 2015, 22 barricades and ditches were dismantled while 15 terrorists were killed.
In Silopi town of Şırnak, starting from December 14, 518 barricades were removed, while more than 270 excavated ditches were filled.
In another town of Şırnak, Cizre, 699 barricades were removed, 252 excavated ditched were filled and 666 terrorists were killed.
In Mardin's Derik town, seven terrorists were neutralized while 17 barricades were removed and 7 ditches were filled.
Meanwhile, Sur town of Diyarbakır and Idil town of Şırnak continue to witness clashes between security forces and the PKK terrorists.
Since November 28, 98 percent of operations were completed in Sur; as many as 251 terrorists were killed, 204 barricades were removed and seven ditches were filled. Also, 302 explosives were destroyed.
In Idil town of Şırnak, as many as 65 terrorists were killed, 132 barricades were removed and 42 ditches were filled up to now.
