544 PKK terrorists killed in Cizre and Sur since December

A total of 544 members of the separatist organisation were neutralized across only two southeastern towns, the military says

Security forces have killed a total of 20 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists across two southeastern towns in the latest in a series of sweeping operations, the military said.



The General Staff said on its officials site that 17 more PKK terrorists were neutralized in Şırnak province's Cizre town while three more terrorists were neutralized in Diyarbakır's Sur town. Since the beginning of Turkey's retaliatory attacks against the PKK in mid-December 2015, a total of 429 terrorists were killed in Cizre while 115 totally were slain in Sur.



During the anti-terror raids across Cizre, the military seized a large of weapons cache, including one rocket launcher, three guns, five hand grenades, nine radio-sets, nine hunting rifles, and 14 bottles of gas as well as two automatic rifles with eight chargers and 69 cartridges. Among the confiscated cache were 533 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, electrical components, detonating cord and 200 electrical ignitition devices of the sort used to make a bomb.



One PKK terrorist, who escaped from one of the shelter facilities in northern Iraq, turned himself in to security forces in Silopi town of Şırnak, the General Staff also said.



Meanwhile, the border units in Kilis have captured six people believed to be Daesh terrorists in their attempt to cross into Turkey through Syrian border. Local sources said the suspected Daesh terrorists were infiltrating with eight children when apprehended by the border guards.



8 PKK collaborators entrapped after tip-offs


Three people were detained on charges of aiding and abetting the separatist organisation in Ağrı. When they were held after a local resident's tip-off, police also found out two hunting rifles, electrical equipment to be used in making bombs, a CD containing outlawed documents and a mobile phone.



Turkish police acting on a tip-off from local residents held five people for allegedly aiding and abetting in Şirvan town of Siirt, the Southeast. When police searched the suspects' home, they discovered a cache of weapons including one automatic rifle, 102 cartridges, two unlicensed guns and five pairs of binoculars.
