Around 22,000 dismissed from duties in FETÖ probe

Thousands are dismissed from duty, while around 10,000 police and thousands of military personnel are being appointed following the July 15 coup bid

Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has said that as many as 21,929 people were dismissed from their duties, since the beginning of the probe against Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) following the coup bid that targeted the democratically-elected government and concluded with hundreds of fatalities.



"Until now, 9,786 were arrested, while 3,569 returned to their duties," Soylu said.



The minister also said that 10,000 police, 700 officers, 3,450 non-commissioned officers, 9,000 specialists are being appointed following the coup bid.





As a part of the efforts of Turkey's Defense Ministry, 50 officers, 105 petty officers and 635 specialists are being appointed to the Coast Guard Command.



The move of Turkey aims to fill the contingent of police and soldiers following July 15.





On July 15, as many as 241 people, including members of the security forces and civilians, were martyred in Istanbul and Ankara, and nearly 2,000 others were wounded, as they protested against the coup bid.



The coup was attempted by the Fetullah Gülen-led FETÖ terrorist organization.
