A staff colonel, claimed to have taken part in the coup attempt ordered by Fetullah Gülen, the leader of FETÖ/PDY terrorist organization, has attempted suicide on Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge

Birkan Çörez reportedly got out of his car and started to run to the safety rail of the bridge.

The police reached the scene and prevented the suicide attempt after spending half-an-hour trying to convince the colonel not to jump.

The failed coup was organized by followers of U.S.- based Fetullah Gülen, who has been pursuing a long-running campaign to overthrow the government through infiltrating the Turkish state.

On Friday night, July 15, rogue military elements attempted to overthrow Turkey's democratically elected government by force.

The Turkish nation fought against the coup attempt, at many points, particularly in Istanbul and Ankara.

As many as 246 people were martyred in the incidents that were triggered by the coup attempted by a group of FETÖ soldiers.
