Fetullah Gülen, the leader of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), had instructed his followers 36 years ago to be prepared for the implementation of an upcoming sortie in Turkey.

An indictment prepared by Bakırköy Public Prosecutor Ömer Aydıner over irregularity during a FETÖ-run investigation in 2013, known as the Dec. 17 probe, included Gülen's speeches in 1980.

Gülen announced the sortie in Izmir

Gülen told his followers two months before the September 12 military coup in 1980 that a sortie movement is being launched, but it would be successful after 35-40 years, according to the indictment.

“A sortie movement will be started within a couple of days. Provincial leaders for this movement had already been determined," Gülen told his followers in Izmir in April 1980.

In another speech, added to the indictment, he delivered two months before the Sept. 12 coup, Gülen said, “A sortie movement has been started. But this movement would be made applicable after 35-40 years. It is not possible in the current atmosphere".

Gülen had also drawn a roadmap for the success of the sortie movement.

“For the success of the sortie movement, we should open a dormitory for middle and higher study students across the country," he added.

“To raise the students staying in our dormitory as fruitful as we want, we should publish books and magazines describing our ideas and thoughts," he said highlighting that teachers have a key role in this direction.

The Sept. 12 coup had opened Gülen's path and his so-called movement to infiltrate the Turkish state institutions, as he supported the coupists at that time, saying the military was more democratic.

Teachers played a leading role

Since then, FETÖ teachers have been taking the key role for expanding their so-called movement in Turkey and around the world. The organization infiltrated its teachers in universities, military schools and police schools.

Investigations after last month's coup attempt also revealed that Gülen operated its organization through hundreds of teachers, whom they called “imam".

The teachers are the top figures among its gangs in the police, judiciary and military.

In a speech in the 1990's, Gülen expanded his ambition of sending teachers for higher training in abroad.

“Our friends who have made their careers abroad are fed in every place. These friends will be our messenger of those world-level universities in accordance with our target. If they return, Turkey would be 'my teachers' of the universities in our hands," he said.

The indictment read that these words from Gülen contain the strategy and tactic of his future ambition.

“With all of these speeches, Gülen has shown a goal to the FETÖ members, who had been trained in the organization with the principle of 'precaution and intelligence,' 'Education and company', and ordered them to neutralize all enemies on their way to infiltrate the state," the indictment read.

Fetullah Gülen, the U.S.-based leader of the FETÖ terrorist organization, was the mastermind of the July 15 coup attempt that killed 240 people and injured thousands.

Thousands of FETÖ members have been detained in a post-coup investigation; most of whom confessed their involvement in the organization and intention to overthrow the government.
