German Chancellor Angela Merkel praised Turkey on Thursday for its handling of refugees in a speech given at the EU summit in Brussels.
In a statement, Merkel said that Turkey has been “extraordinarily helpful” during the migrant crisis.
"I will also make clear that Turkey is doing a great job on the refugees and that we have obligations under the EU-Turkey deal. We have promised 3 billion euros for the coming years in addition to the 3 billion that we have already committed. We need to deliver on this promise," she added.
Merkel has made scandalous statements regarding Turkey’s internal affairs throughout her reelection campaign.
Turkey currently hosts over 3.2 million Syrian refugees who escaped the six-and-a-half-year civil war, according to a UN Refugee Agency report.
