Turkish security forces, which have been conducting heavy fighting against the PKK terrorists in southeast Turkey's countryside, have made important advances in Çukurca, a gendarmerie official said.

General Yaşar Güler, the chief of Gendarmerie Forces, said on Thursday that the Kaletepe area in the Çukurca District of Hakkari province was completely cleaned from the separatist terror group.

“We have made significant results,” he said, adding that Turkish forces were conducting a do-or-die fight in the area.

PKK had more than a dozen terror shelters in the mountainous areas in Çukurca, as Kazan Valley is thought to be the largest one. The Turkish military had destroyed many of the shelters and caves used as PKK shells.

“All 12 points [of the PKK terrorists in the area] would be searched one by one,” the top general said.

The operation in Çukurca, that is being conducted simultaneously with the military campaign in Northern Syria, witnessed the death of more than 150 PKK terrorists, making one of the largest ruptures in the PKK in recent weeks.
