The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched more than 11,000 cases against suspected members of Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) probe in Ankara since last year’s defeated coup in Turkey, the office announced on Saturday.
The 11,325 cases were against suspects accused of “attempting to stage a coup” and “being a leader or a member in armed terror group”.
Among 57,567 suspects, 9,271 were arrested as part of investigations into FETÖ.
The office filed 33 indictments as part of the FETÖ probe on charges of “attempting to destroy and block Turkish Grand Assembly”, and “an armed revolt against the government”; 2,727 out of 3,940 suspects named in the indictments were arrested.
Prosecutors also filed 467 indictments against 5,252 suspects accused of “being a leader or a member of an armed terrorist organization”; among those, 2,706 suspects were arrested.
A total of 9,825 case files are still under investigation.
Among 48,375 suspects named, 3,838 were arrested on the charge of “being a leader or a member of an armed terrorist organization”.
FETÖ and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gülen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
FETÖ is also behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
